The investigation of this phenomenon and its transformative effects, which gain strength from both widespread sentiment and independent observation, continuously influence ever more successfully information, development and communication processes. Image ARCHIVE is the multimedia archive devoted to collecting, preserving and advancing architecture videos. Its main objective is to offer adequate exposure and circulation to the most significant audiovisual documents that bear witness to past, present and future architectural research. This tool of communication has altered the way architects envision the built environment resulting in new systems of social relations and greater proximity to design issues on the part of the general public. Image ARCHIVE offers a transverse outlook onto architectural production due to the variety of works that form part of its collection. The assortment of documents included, from Italy and abroad, ranges in medium from videos, to animations, to digital models, to interviews, to multimedia, etc. The work is produced by the architects themselves, independently or in collaboration with authors or companies specialized in the field of visualization and representation of contemporary architecture. Aside from the works produced by world renowned architects, the archive also collects works realized by emerging designers or authors in search of new tools capable of communicating architectural projects. Image ARCHIVE looks at existing architectural archives as models; however it is unique because of its peculiar history. The existence and growth of the archive are closely related to the pluriannual experience of BEYOND MEDIA, and the contact that Image maintains with architects and authors regarding their activities. Image ARCHIVE was intentionally created as a hybrid, it doesn’t just preserve vital architecture videos, but it also works towards their development and promotion as effective tools that facilitate awareness among the actors involved in the architectural scene. Image ARCHIVE has been associated with BEYOND MEDIA www.beyondmedia.it, the international festival of architecture and media, ever since its inception in Florence 1997. BEYOND MEDIA is an internationally recognized event that focuses on the presentation of architecture videos to a wide and specialized audience. Over the years the festival has established its role as an important occasion to reflect upon the relationships between architecture and its media of communication. It offers the possibility to explore audiovisual tools by allowing the convergence of different points of view on the topic. The Archive retains a prominent position in the discourse due to its constant updates -the result of uninterrupted monitoring of the most relevant areas of architectural production.
