"The 'slow architecture' developed by the FRIGERIO DESIGN GROUP is a progressive form of architecture, which endures over time and draws the resources that give it definition from the surrounding context." The architecture of Enrico Frigerio appears to be naturally engaged in a need for synthesis in each stage of its process, from the early conception all thru the relationships with the client and the construction phase. If the client and the architect are the protagonists of the field where architecture develops its forms, then the context is the materialization of its silent, though demanding spirit. The context asks for, demands, and induces an intelligent and delicate interaction.

Client, construction, context. These are the three keywords in Slow architecture for living (Skira, 2005), the first monograph devoted to the works of the Frigerio Design Group, edited by Luca Molinari. The book presents the balanced, conscious, and thoughtful approach of Enrico Frigerio. He is very much influenced, step after step, by the expectations of the client -as they are expressed in the conversations with the architect-, by the needs of the territory -with which he established a relationship that is at times harmonious or discordant, though never fortuitous-, and, still, by the constantly evolving experience of the construction. "A motto -writes Luca Molinari commenting the title of the book- that presupposes a view of architecture as an activity with a high social value, and at the same time as a profession with a strong awareness of its role and of the influence that works of architecture have on the environment and life of those who live in them (...)."

From the rapture of the inspiration to the "total quality." Along this direction Enrico Frigerio pursues the objective of "total quality" -as he himself calls it-, i.e. the aspiration to conceive an architecture that derives from a sustainable approach, one that is capable of responding to its users' needs and of coupling the language of technology with the needs for energy conservation.

"These buildings -explains Marco Brizzi, curator of the exhibition- draw attention and are appreciated for their sense of reasonableness and balance, which envelops them with discreet elegance, making them impalpable protagonists of the space in which they are sited. The architectural works of the Frigerio Design Group are part of the environment, into which they dissolve to create a very personal and extremely precise poetics of disappearance."

The FRIGERIO DESIGN GROUP. A Journey in Slow Architecture exhibition, supplemented by a catalogue released by Mandragora www.mandragora.it, is part of the program of traveling exhibitions produced and organized by Image EXHIBITIONS.
