iMage PUBLISHING supported the NEXT-GENE20 project by providing editorial services for the international launch of the initiative which saw the involvement of 20 architects working on the theme of the residence: NEXT-GENE20 is the project, initiated by Tai-Nien Lu and coordinated by Yu-Tung Liu, aimed at realizing 20 villas in the beautiful Northeast Coast National Scenic Area in Taiwan. The 20 architects, generally young, are internationally known, some world famous, and are all interested in architectural experimentation: Yung Ho Chang, Ray Chen, Hsueh-Yi Chien, Jay Wen-Chieh Chiu, Julien De Smedt, GRAFT, Akihisa Hirata, Irving Hung-Hui Huang, Sheng-Yuan Huang, IaN+, Yu-Tung Liu, Kengo Kuma, Shu-Chang Kung, Fernando Menis, Toshiko Mori, MVRDV, Hailim Suh, David Chun-Tei Tseng, Kyle Chia-kai Yang, Kris Yao. Given the importance and liveliness of the project, iMage PUBLISHING, in accordance with iMage MEDIA AGENCY, defined the editorial guidelines and selected, among the best video authors worldwide in the field of architecture, the most suitable ones for this specific project. Among the many available options, the London based award winning media production studio of Squint/Opera www.squintopera.com, that creates sophisticated architectural narrative films and are authors of some extraordinary stories on the contemporary city, was chosen. The video realized by Squint/Opera in collaboration with iMage, titled Team NEXT-GENE20, presents the project in Taiwan by means of a surprising comic book which, once animated, travels around the twenty experimental villas with the architects appearing, ironically, in the manner of superheroes who are undertaking a very special mission. The soundtrack takes its inspiration from kung-fu movies, the James Bond series, and The Blues Brothers. The Team NEXT-GENE20 video will be presented during the 11th International Exhibition of Architecture at the Venice Biennale and will be part of the 2009 edition of the BEYOND MEDIA festival www.beyondmedia.it. iMage will further support its international diffusion.
